I developed my passion for teaching others from a a pre-college program I was in called Upward Bound. I learned study skills, time management and other skills that helped me excel in college. After college graduation,i obtained a tutoring position with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.I served as a mentor as well guiding them through the difficulties of high school and applying for college and financial aid. As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student discover for themselves the material not only educates them but fosters a passion for the subject at hand. Rote memory has it's place and is essential, but when a student becomes passionate about a subject, then the door is open for them to excel at it. My teaching belief is that every audience is different. Children do not learn in the same way that adults do, therefore there are two different methodologies to teaching each learning set. My method is to gauge what the learner already knows, how they learn best, what motivates them, listen to their dreams, concerns, and frustrations and go from there.
