As a certified TESL instructor, I have worked as an ESL teacher for Aston English in Weihai, China for the past 12 months. Before my time teaching abroad, I volunteered in an English learning class at Ozark Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri. My ESL teaching style includes an approach called 'whole language learning', which includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. My style of teaching varies with the child, their age, personality, subject, and amount of time we have. Besides teaching 2nd grade religion for 14 years my daughter has ADD. I have worked with kids who need to keep moving while they learn, to kids who need complete quiet. Some kids are more visual learners; others need to act the lesson out, while others do fine quietly reading. The important thing is to make it interesting so they WANT to learn. Older kids with a higher level of maturity don't require as entertaining a lesson. They want to see how to apply what they are learning to their life.
