A Little Bit About Me...

During my study towards at BS in Chemistry I published a paper with a professor doing electrochemical research. I currently work at a small manufacturing company where I purchase raw materials, formulate products, supervise the manufacturing process and check the quality of the end product. Through my studies and work I have learned to apply analytical thinking to real world problems for results. During the past decade I have tutored in mathematics, science, philosophy, photography and literature.

I started tutoring people because it seemed like a great way to meet different people, but I continued because I like helping people learn and discover new things. Everyone is different and therefore my teaching style various by student but typically the way I relate the information to everyday events or make abstract ideas concrete are the most effective. I believe that learning occurs through doing, particularly when it comes to writing. Students become better writers by putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). There are obviously techniques to be taught and encouraged, but individual discovery is key. As a young adult I always had a passion for teaching. I began tutoring at a young age and then after high school began working towards my teaching certificate in English.
