Learning is an awesome tool when you have the ability to understand and use it in your surroundings. This is my goal for every student. I've taught in many different ways: classroom, small groups, one-on-one, multi-level and specific levels in ESL. All areas are covered with my teaching style, which includes: reading, writing, grammar, conversation, dictation and everyday life skills. My goal for every student is to help them shine and reach their full potential in a fun and relaxed setting.
I have always had a passion to teach. I have been lucky enough to teach both children and adults. Before moving from Delaware to Atlanta, GA I taught kindergarten. It was rewarding and very fulfilling. When I lived in Atlanta I was fortunate to find an ESL position teaching children and adults. I was hooked! I've been able to utilize all my skills that I have learned from the University ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I think all people are learners whether they are in a classroom or not. As a teacher I like to use hands on interactive methods that put the student at the center of the learning. I am patient and fun while still maintaining a professional decorum with my students. I like to find out why my students want to learn what they are studying and I like to challenge my students to learn because I think that a self-motivated student is the best kind. If students find the will within themselves to learn there is no way to stop them and with my help and guidance I believe they can reach their full potential as learners. Also I love questions! Questions are the seeds of learning.
I have most of my experience working with English language learners. Over the past year I have worked with English language learners that came from varied backgrounds such as, university aged Korean students, a ... read more

I am rather easy-going, and am flexible in the material that I teach. Depending on the needs of the student, I can either provide a lesson plan each session or help the student with homework. I can provide references upon request when I am hired.
I have tutored as a self-employed tutor in French, and my student was ahead of her class for the beginning of the next year. I have also weekly taught two classes at two elementary schools in French. I have been to Québec, Canada, two of the past three summers, in which I had a great immersion to a degree in the language. Also, I have done some volunteer translations for Huntsville, AL; England; and Sherbrooke, Québec. French was my minor when I received my BBA in 2009.

I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I have worked in tutoring programs for elementary school children approximately twice a week fo ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I began to realize my love and aptitude for tutoring as a volunteer Japanese instructor for the Daikin home-stay program in 2006. The next two years I volunteered my time with Rosie's International Services tutoring Spanish. At the beginning of the Spring 2008 semester, the Head of the Foreign Language Department, Dr. Maier, submitted my name to a tutoring department at UAH, where I worked tutoring Spanish, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and English as a Second Language until I graduated in Spring 2010. Although I do not have an education degree nor teaching certificate, I was hired as a part-time Spanish teacher at Austin High School 2010-2011, where I started an informal Japanese Culture Club.
The first thing I do with any new student is identify his or her learning style so that I may incorporate those specific strategies into my lesson for an effective and personalized learning expe ... read more

Through out high school and college I was a member of several community service clubs that took part in community outreach tutoring in elementary, middle, and high schools. In 2001 I began working as an SAT tutor for the University of California, Irvine's Early Academic Outreach Program. I conducted after school (7th period) classes that included up to 20 students as well as individual one-on-one tutoring. In 2004 I was hired as an Educational Therapist working with a child psychologist and providing academic support for students with varying abilities.
