My comments on tutoring Graphic Design : Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. The designer works with a variety of communication tools in order to convey a message from a client to a particular audience. The main tools are image and typography.

With over 14 years of experience, my first job out of college was designing print collateral for a printing company. I also worked with customer files, often trouble shooting and correcting errors so they would print properly. That experience built a great foundation for my future graphic design work. I have worked on national and global marketing campaigns, and worked with several of Orlando's top ad agencies.

Graphic Design is one of my top subjects! I have a BFA in Graphic Design and a MFA in Computer Graphic Design. I have been working with design applications since 2005 and am currently employed at Full Sail University. In my spare time I take on freelance design jobs for small businesses and organizations. When teaching I don't necessarily like to just give the answer directly. Graphic Design takes a creative approach that must be learned. If I can get the student to think about their problem objectively they will be more likely to remember how to do the same task again with ease.

In creative fields you have to let the student figure out how to approach the project in their own style. There is more than one way to solve any design problem. I like to ask questions that make the student think about their project and approach in a different way than they were originally. I also share tip and techniques that make it easier for the student to work.
