I believe all students can learn and use my training and experience to adapt my teaching strategies to individual learning styles. Using student interests can help direct teaching that improves students’ enjoyment of learning. For instance, when teaching reading to boys I have found that they often like to read more factual reading material about sports, science, history, mechanics, etc. Student interests change as they get older and reading material needs to be age appropriate. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe a successful instructor is the most important part of teaching; one who is knowledgeable, wise, and be able to effectively communicate the knowledge to the students. I believe this can be achieved primarily by knowing the entirety of the subject taught and being able to connect with the students on an individual basis. The most effective instructors in my experience especially in higher education were effective at answering in dept questions on the spot and being able to connect with students with the course material rather than presenting facts or knowledge.

I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology. Just about every semester I have written a 7-15 page research paper and have written several other essays, reports, and assignments in general. My first experience tutoring was in 8th grade when my 6th grade math teacher asked me to help some of his struggling students. I greatly enjoyed the experience and wanted to continue. I didn't get another chance to tutor until my freshman year of college. I volunteered to help a young man who could not take notes for himself.
