I have a natural affinity for teaching. Although I have "formally" taught for the last 3 years; I have volunteered in various capacities teaching young and mature alike. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping to educate people. I have earned a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Accounting. Through my education and experience I have an extensive set of business and grammar skills. I have completed four years of Latin and enjoyed it. During high school I took AP History and Government and past the AP Exam. I enjoy studying for Test Prep and enjoy helping students achieve their goals. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.
I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I have worked for Norfolk City Public Schools and Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a substitute teacher for approximately six years. During that period I performed a multitude of jobs including long term substitute positions, teaching high school physics, and performed tasks far beyond the parameters of substitute job specifications.
