I have been working with children ever since I can remember. I love to engage in creative activities with children while helping them utilize their strengths to overcome their limitations. I've learned that by figuring out what motivates a child, s/he can learn anything! I also know that if a child is having fun, it means that s/he is learning something. I have earned a B.S. and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as, a bilingual extension in Spanish. I have been teaching Music History and Music Appreciation classes and always put the music into the social context in which it was produced. I have also taught World Music and Afro-Centric classes and again, place the content in its social context. Prior to this I had a number of years teaching Social Studies and English classes as a guest artist/musician in numerous area high schools. I love teaching and helping children learn. My philosophy is that you have to make this information that your children are learning relatable to what they are going through. If you do this children will enjoy learning. I feel that it is also to make sure that you are helping children learn in a fun, yet productive environment. I have a great deal of customer service experience working for both M&T Bank and Key Bank. I excelled in Reading and English subjects throughout school, reading multiple grade levels ahead of myself. I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Unfortunately the availability of teaching positions in my area has prevented me from full time employment but I've kept myself busy subbing and working with young adults and those with disabilities further their educational needs.
