I taught 5 years of high school level science(chemistry, physics, biology, physical science), 3 years at university level, 1 year of chemistry at community college level. . During 5 years of teaching at the high school level, I worked with students rather than just lecturing to them. I developed a student centered understanding of what helps students learn. I brought the course material together in a way that was much easier for students to understand and remember. I graduated summa cum laude in the Honors College at Missouri State with a degree in cell and molecular biology and extensive studies in math and physics. I have been working as a private tutor in math and science for 10 years, working with students in upper elementary through college. I have been a certified teacher since 2009, and I currently teach 5th grade math.

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. During my Associates degree, I enjoyed the opportunity to work in the Excel/SSS student-tutoring department. I was recommended by several of my professors to tutor in the subjects of chemistry and mathematics. I tutored in subjects ranging from introduction to chemistry to general chemistry 1 along with mathematics subject from basic mathematics all the way to calculus 1. A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my AA and then pursued a BS degree in chemistry. After college I worked at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site working in the quality control department. I worked my way to lead laboratory technician then to the supervisor of the lab. During this tenure I was responsible for training the other technicians in methods and new techniques. I also helped develop a new system of training to help decrease the time needed to train an individual and remove unnecessary redundant tactics.
