If you want something bad enough, you must fight for it.

I am patient but firm. If a student isn't willing to put in a 100% effort then I will not waste my time. I have always gotten exemplary grades from anyone I've tutored. I teach each student differently, some are more visual, or auditory, or hands-on, and I adjust my methods to better benefit my students. Bottom line: I will work hard for you, and I expect you to work hard for you too.
I have always written, and I have always loved doing it. The same goes for reading. I have tutored various class mates through college, and have also worked at a children's enrichment center (I am currently employed there) where I teach basic reading and writing. I am also currently editing a friends novel. I made the Dean's list two years in a row, graduated with the two highest literary awards under my belt, and I have been published in the Equinox and In My Lifetime.

I believe in engaging the students in their learning. In order to avoid boredom and to get students active in their learning, they need to move, collaborate, and have discussions and Socratic Circles to debate and argue their ideas in a reasonable way to prepare them for what goes beyond grade school. Students should be involved in projects that involve creation, and thinking outside of the box. We should be teaching our students to use digital tools in order to take an interest in learning outside of the classroom. And because of so much technology, students have information at their fingertips, which means instead of memorization and recall questions, we should have students explain what they have learned through a variety of methods using a variety of research. Also as teachers, we should be guides to the students as they navigate through the information overload and prepare to e ... read more

My comments on tutoring Poetry : I write poetry a lot in my free time, I feel like that is one of the best ways to express yourself, through wtiting. I have a lot of practice and education in poetry.

I am a High School Senior. I attend J. A. Fair High School in Little Rock, AR. I am a social person and I am really good at interacting with others. I am not self-centered and I help people whenever I can. I like when people ask me for help because it makes me feel like I'm doing something right and that I can make a small difference if nothing else.
When I am tutoring others, I have a very hands on approach. I may offer help and hints, but I don't give away answers, I make people work for their grades. I try to make things interesting or entertaining when I'm tutoring, just so people don't get bored.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is whatever best fits the student. When working one on one with a student I practice a few different methods of teaching and whichever one they feel the most comfortable with and I receive the most attentiveness from, is the one that I continue to use. For example, some students prefer that you walk them through a lesson, go over a few practice problems and then let them work on assignments, knowing that they have you to assist them when needed. Others might want to jump into the assignment and when a question arises, they ask you to refer to the lesson to help them find the solution.
I have earned my Master's and Bachelors and am currently seeking my PHD. I enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others. My business degrees, and over 10 years of professional experience in the workforce, I am a confident instructor in Mathematics, English and Communications ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I believe we all learn in different ways, and I am always open minded in finding the best way for that student I am working with at that time. I believe everyone can achieve the highest of goals if we all strive for that success and find out a way to get there. However, most of all I hope I can leave a feeling of respect for the studies and for the people around us.
I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. I have tutored all through High School, College and thereafter. I have a real passion for learning math, all sciences, and history. I hope I can pass this respect for these studies on to everyone I teach.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience includes private applied instruction in Voice, Piano, and Drama; substitute classroom instruction for various subjects at both elementary and secondary levels; and one-on-one aide work with special needs students. Since graduating with my Bachelor's of Music: Composition from the University of Redlands in 2006 (after only five semesters of residence), I have passionately pursued the transformative labor of education, particularly as concerns youth. My greatest areas of expertise are Music, Drama, and English.
I tailor my approach to instruction to meet individual needs. Ideally, all instruction (but especially personal tutoring) will conform itself to the needs of every student. While each mind is unique, encouragement and challenge cultivate excellence impartially; in light of this, I strive to create an environment that fosters excellence. My personality conve ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong constructivist teaching style: I do my best to connect a student's prior knowledge and experiences to new knowledge in order to build on his or her experience, thereby creating a foundation for intrinsic learning. My reading lessons are technically rigorous, but are supplemented with frequent discussion to check for understanding. I abide by the principle "first accuracy, then speed." In all subjects, I strive for student mastery and maximum comprehension.
While enrolled in the teacher certification program with Hendrix College, I mentored/tutored an eighth grader in various subjects. I enjoyed the one-on-one experience thoroughly and quickly returned to tutoring at Arkansas School for the Blind. During my three years of employment with ASB, I improved ACTAAP reading scores of two students with reading/learning impairments after one year of tutoring sessions f ... read more
