A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. Also, a calm environment allows a child the ability to think without excessive distraction. Everyone learns in their own personal way and as a mentor I would like to help foster that.

I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. After teaching 2 years at a large public High School, I spent 5 years as a Research Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. This experience gives me a practical understanding of research and science that I could not have achieved had I limited my career to teaching alone. For the past year I have been teaching at the LPS Science Focus Program where I have greatly diversified my experience. While in teachers college I decided to pursue a degree in Biochemistry to strengthen my content knowledge. Having a science degree in addition to a teaching degree is a definite advantage.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Human Resources Manager for past 10 years. A good portion of my job is involved with training. While there are differences in training/teaching adults versus young adults and children, the basics are still the same. I have volunteered in the past as religious educator for children in first, second and fourth grade. I also did some volunteer tutoring over 8 years ago in Mississippi as I was involved with the local literacy council.
I like to make teaching fun. I pride myself on my ability to add fun through puzzles, arts and crafts, etc. and teach all at the same time. It is so rewarding when a child you are working with accomplishes what they may have though to be the impossible.
