My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : Expert at all SAT Math concepts. Particularly good at showing students how to eliminate incorrect answer choices and guess intelligently and strategically for higher scores. Also very familiar with the core concepts tested over and over again on the SAT Math.

If you watch me closely during our sessions, you can see me secretly paying keen attention to you and how you learn best. For example, you might say, "It LOOKS like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! LOOKS. Maybe you're a visual learner and like to SEE things explained and SEE examples. (About 80% of students are visual learners.) On the other hand, you might say, "It sounds like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! sounds. Maybe you like to HEAR things explained, and you're a keen listener and like to hear things described clearly and specifically. Or maybe you'll say, "I FEEL like they want me to factor here" (as you tap the problem with your pencil). And I'll think, "Aha! FEEL. I used to hate math, now I love it.

i am pretty relaxed and informal, but I expect students to do the work assigned. I help, but I don't do the work for them. I use Socratic questioning to get students to understand the material. I stress learning concepts and building on them as opposed to memorizing or guessing enough to pass a test.
I received a BS in Horticulture from Va. Polytechnic Institute and State University. majored in Biology (Botany) for 3 years at Virginia Commonwealth Univ. and College of William and Mary. Recently retook Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3 at Virginia Western Community College. I have a background tutoring and running a tutoring center for STEM subjects at a community college for 3 years. I have been tutoring in some form for 6 years. I have a certification in tutoring ESL and several years experience in that.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a college student I worked as a tutor in the learning center on campus. I have earned my bachelor degree in mathematics and my masters degree in secondary education. This allowed me to start my career as a high school math teacher. While earning my masters in education I also took several graduate level math courses, and once I started teaching I continued to take graduate level courses to gain a second masters degree in mathematics. With that I have been able to teach AP/Dual calculus at Cave Spring High School this school year as a dual instructor for Virginia Western.
