I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. Thus the student's questions drive the student towards the answer desired. I find great personal reward when working with students. After explaining information and working on helping a student understand the material there's sometimes that moment when you can watch the student go from not knowing what's going on to sudden understanding. Moments like that make my day.

I worked for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for 14 years as an Endangered Species Research Scientist. As a high school teacher, I facilitated the instruction of approximately 100 students in Chemistry in accordance with Massachusetts Learning Standards. Developed and implemented course curriculum for the Forensic Science course, including labs featuring gun shot residue testing, urinalysis, and DNA electrophoresis . Supervised the after-school chemistry tutoring program for all high school students. Additionally, I served as a volunteer ESL tutor for one year.
