My comments on tutoring Biology : I took both Honors Biology in ninth grade and AP Biology in twelfth grade. I received an A in both courses for my hard work and was in the top of my class both years. I mastered the basics from Honors in AP biology. One emphasis my teacher had was to be able to explain the concepts both in writing and verbally so I have become a very effective tutor in this subject area.

Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.
I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.

I am finishing up my Bachelors degree in Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta- I will be graduated in December. I have been offered positions as a chemistry tutor but denied because of my other jobs. I was a student mentor for a year in high school to students that were "slacking" or wasn't understanding one or more of their classes. I worked at Albany ARC and worked to train young adults and adults in the kitchen- which also included basic skills such as counting and reading.
I really would like to help make a difference in someone's life and help them understand academics just like myself. I love teaching and appreciate that subjects such as chemistry can be very difficult for young people. This difficulty is often present for two reasons. The first is that chemistry is not necessarily intuitive. It studies particles that are too small to see and cannot be observed directly. The second is that most of the basic theory is derived with very advanced math and most students are taking chemistry in the tenth or eleventh grade. This means that a conceptual understanding is crucial to success.
