Political Science is one of my top subjects! Political Science was the centerpiece of my studies at the University of Florida. In addition to academic experience, I have been politically active for 12 years on both the state and national levels. My academic experience covers domestic politics and internal relations. I have been tutoring in the areas of international/domestic political theory for three years.

I am a firm believer that different people learn in different ways. Therefore, while I teach by my own set of principles I am always seeking feedback on how better to accommodate the manners in which criteria can be better understood.
Prior to serving in the United States Army, I was a successful entrepreneur in NJ. In 2003, I was recruited and after serving I returned to train troops at the Infantry Training Brigade at Fort Benning, GA. After returning home, I began working at a financial firm and became a licensed Investment Advisor and Asset Manager. I ran the Manasquan Edward Jones branch office until deciding to return to school. I studied Political Science at the University of Florida completing their International Relations program Cum Laude. Studies in International Relations focused on the international global economy, international agencies, national security, internation ... read more

I graduated Magna Cum Laude for Political Science, earned my certification in International Relations and minored in Classics. I headed multiple study groups for my peers upon their request and I have a great ability to explain very complex theory in very easy to understand terms. I know how to word something multiple ways so that if you are not understanding it one way I can easily try something different. I do not over complicate anything. I try to simplify as much as possible then build from there.

My comments on tutoring Political Science : Experienced to teach Middle School, High School

First off I approach learning with a degree of understanding for the student, I have found not all students learn at the same pace and have the same strengths and weakness. I like to build the strengths and bring up the weakness. A student must want to learn and to take ownership with his or her educational career no matter what the degree is in. I like to think, I can bring to table the confidence the student needs to make a difference in the way they learn. Thus at the end of our tutoring sessions these skills learned can carry over to other subjects the students pursuance of a higher education.
Currently I have a BA in History/Education from St. Leo University and a Masters in Educational Technology (Online Learning) from American Intercontinental University; my specialty lies in American, European and World History as well as how to use and manage online distance learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I use humor to bring the subject matter to life, and I help the student come to her/his own understanding through discussion of the course material, encouraging her/him to take an active role in learning. I am accustomed to working with students who believe that history is boring and/or challenging. I focus on major themes and relate the material to students' lives, rather than stressing rote memorization of dates and facts (although comprehension of reading material is important). In short, I leave students with a love for history, and I help students develop their writing and analytical skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style would be best described as creative and improvisational. Because I work with students from such varied backgrounds, I believe that the best method is one that allows for flexibility and at the same time incorporates lessons from several fields at once. For example, in both my GED and ESOL courses I incorporate music into my lesson plans. I find that music is an excellent avenue to explore contemporary topics that can then lead to essay topics. At the same time, song lyrics are poetry and can be studied as such.
As a student in the PhD program at the University of Florida, I have been very involved in academic pursuits. However, this personal endeavor reaches beyond my own experience as a student and extends into my professional work as an educator. I believe that the key to academic success lies in developing a personal passion for any given subject area; I live to share my passion for knowledge with others. I am authentic, intuitive, and calm. I feel that all persons can learn any subject provided sufficient internal motivation. As much as possible, knowledge should be discovered in a relevant manner so as to ensure a continued interest. Sometimes all a student needs is that little spark, and I aim to provide it.
I have gained tutoring experience as a volunteer tutor at Bartow High School, treating Spanish, math, and the sciences. More About This Tutor...

I have worked as a substitute teacher in a wide variety of subject areas, and have volunteered as a tutor for some time. However, since beginning a PhD program at UF I have done neither. Though most substitutes are not much more than babysitters, I attempted to teach whatever subject matter was before the students. I regularly heard from students that they understood my way of explaining something better than they understood their regular teacher (though this by no means happened in every class). This happened most often in math and history courses. In my work as a lawyer (I was an assistant district attorney between law school and the PhD program) I honed my conciseness skills. I have prepared more academic papers than I care to recall during my eleven years (and counting) of higher education. My particular field of political science requires proficiency with higher math and statistic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. My teaching style is geared at making people think. Students don't learn when they are spoon fed their education but when they are lead in the correct direction.
I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT.
