My teaching philosophy is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for my students, in which they feel equal and confident as learners. Creating a positive learning environment begins with building a strong rapport with students and coworkers. Another aspect of building a strong classroom community is motivation. As a teacher, my goal is to help student build strong self-efficacy so that they feel inclined to work hard and develop an inner sense of motivation. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping students learn the concepts of mathematics/statistics and helping them to understand how to use these concepts in the real world. Math can be quite challenging, but with the right amount of effort, patience, and guidance, anyone can learn. I know this because I've tutored students as young as 12 and adults as old as 30. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. I enjoy working with children and always have. I feel my teaching style is more in the Socratic method in that I like to ask them questions until they come to the answer themselves because I feel that increases the retention rate of the subject. Additionally, I like to take the concepts that are being taught and give them real world applications and examples to make the learning more relevant.
Throughout high school and college I volunteered at a local summer theater workshop for children. In this program I started out as a teen counselor and moved on to be an adult helper and play director. Also, I worked for a summer as a camp counselor for the Freeport Youth Summer Program where I led children in games and some educational programming. A Little Bit About Me...

I really starting to help tutor people in high school. I found out that I enjoy helping people with there challenges and watching them succeed. I believe that when teaching or tutoring someone that you find a method that works for that person. That having a teaching template helps as a guide, but if you are not willing to change your method for the student they are never going to be able to retain the information for long term use.
