Microsoft Excel is one of my top subjects!

I tend to be a hands-on teacher. I enjoy watching the light bulb "light up" when a new skill is understood. I do like to work face-to-face with students as It provides a more dynamic environment for both parties. When tutoring a student, I like to start with giving the student a few problems to see where their competency level lies. From there, I proceed like a teacher in a classroom would. I explain a problem while I am solving it step by step on a piece of paper. This allows the student to learn two separate ways-visually and orally. Once an idea is grasped, I like to give the student a couple of similar problems to solve on their own. First I like to try to ask them where they are having trouble or watch them do some problems to see where they are having troubles. Where I find the problem I would show them the correct ways to approach a problem and prove it to them or use other methods to help them understand how the concepts work. I'm a good listener and very patient with students. Also with my computer science background, especially in statistics related applications, I can make demonstrations do demonstrate or even solve problems.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. While going to college at the UW – Eau Claire, I've been a math and statistics tutor for the past four years.
