When the conventional has not worked!!!

Student-centered, Co-intentional. I believe that the key to learning is the motivation to want to learn. Once that has been accomplished, just stand back and guide the student to what they want next.
I have worked in schools in Kentucky and Ohio. I have been a tutor, intervention aide, long term substitute teacher, and regular classroom teacher. I communicate freely with my students, and am always ranked among the most well-liked and effective instructors by my students. My best skill is helping students find what is in it for them to learn and use the material. I love children of all ages. I am very patient and laid back. I am kind, and considerate of others. As a student at Georgetown College, majoring in El. Ed., I student taught in the 1st grade. My supervising teacher said I excelled in reading, and should pursue that area. I have taught 1st-4th grades, and tutored in elementary. I also minored in piano. I have given private piano lessons and done one-on-one tutoring with children and adults. I like to teach using a hands-on approach. I believe the best way to learn is to do or at least attempt to do. I really find satisfaction when I see the “light bulb” go off and there is a glimmer if understanding in the eyes of my pupil.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very hands on. I understand that students learn in a variety of ways. Some are hands on, and need to actually get their hands on the project to understand. Some learn by seeing it. They have to see it and then maybe write it and learn by visualizing. Some learn by listening. They can listen to a lecture and hang on to every word. I understand that all children are different, and therefore lessons have to be taylored to fit each child's learning needs. I love children and enjoy teaching. When I was teaching in a public school, I was very well liked by both children and parents. I was there for every child; not just the good ones. My goal was to take the child that other teachers talked negatively about in the lunchroom and show them that I had no problems with that same child. Teachers should not stereotype.
