I have a degree in both Elementary and Special Education with a concentration in History. In the past nine years, I have taught Kindergarten for seven years and fifth grade for two years. I have taught Summer School in Math and Reading. I have tutored Junior High and High School students in Math, Science, History, and English.
I have a passion for teaching. I love to teach children and young adults. I have always been the teacher to help the struggling students, because at one time I was that student. I understand the encouragement and one on one that learners need. I understand that each of us have our own learning styles and I as a teacher have to understand that to help each student achieve their highest potential.

I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts. I did teach 1 full year as an intervention specialist for a junior high.
The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.

I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me. I enjoy teaching and couldn't see myself doing much else.
While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job ... read more

I graduated from Youngstown State University with my Bachelors of Science in Education in May 2009. During my four years there, I have learned how to prepare developmentally age-appropriate lesson plans, the importance of applying reflective practice based on achievement of learning goals, as well as fostering collaborative relationships to support student learning and well-being. My student teaching and substitute teaching experiences really allowed me to see and demonstrate the belief that all students can learn which has given me a deeper passion for education.
As a pre-service teacher I hope to help change students in a positive way. I am looking forward to building a rapport with them and engaging them into trying new activities that will build their self confidence and their autonomy. Throughout my college experience I have learned the importance of becoming a model and a pr ... read more

I have a B.S. degree in Information Systems with over 30 years experience in the computer industry. I have 9 children which are home schooled (ages 3-17). I'm a math/science guy. I have taught Junior church in the past.
I believe in learning to do things the "hard" way for math, making change, etc. Calculators are good for higher functions and after basics are learned. I try showing different ways of looking at something so the child will understand one way or another. I stress creativity and working things out for yourself as that is needed in life.

A Little Bit About Me...

Over many years as an IT person, I worked with clients, one on one, teaching them how to get their computer to do what they want it to do. Often times, the client would be very frustrated. I needed to first, relieve the frustration – then determine what needed to be done to rectify the situation (through a question and answer processes). Additionally, positive reinforcement is needed throughout the learning process to allow for a more affirmative result.
I am very patient and concerned. My major objective is to identify the area that needs to be addressed. I often also use comparisons to 'real world' similarities in order to make the point. It is also necessary to understand how a person perceives, rationalizes and applies information, as every person is different in this process. The relationship that is developed between myself and the student must be on an even level, in a ... read more

Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. And due to the difficulty of my major, I feel that by being able to communicate well with others in this area I could handle various other scenarios as well. I am highly self-motivated and enjoy sharing my knowledge and ideas with others.
When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other quest ... read more

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but there are different ways children learn. My goals is to provide the best education. Throughout my years in education, I've always relished the opportunity to help children overcome the challenges they face.
