I went on to graduate from CSUFresno with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology; Science is my passion and I believe our young students are in dire need of mentors who are dedicated to show them the world. As an Undergraduate, I volunteered as a librarian, and tutor. In 2009, I was employed by Americorps and was required to teach Science, Math, and English to 4th- 6th graders for eight weeks. While pursuing my Master's degree, I taught several sections on Civil Engineering principles. I also held office hours to tutor students in any other classwork where they were in need of assistance. Subjects ranges from physics to structural mechanics to hydrology to fluid mechanics.
My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.
