My comments on tutoring ACT : I am a College Professor (History, Philosophy, Ethics, English) with many years of tutoring experience. I have taught several test-preparation courses. I have helped many students to achieve well on standardized tests. I am patient and understanding. I have a math/science background and have been teaching basic skills (reading, writing, oral communication) for 30 years.

In my experience, the majority of students are highly motivated. This is, for me, the key to success. Showing substitution techniques when the student has to deal with abstract letters and symbols has been very effective. Also, stressing the importance of practice tests as well as the skill of time management is important. Critical is an open communication and a awareness and sensitivity to the students learning needs / skills.
Studying for my MA, I held a TA and found that I had a talent for connecting with students.
