My comments on tutoring Poetry : Writer and Reader of Poetry

I am a hard worker and expect a similar attitude from the students I tutor. I tend to work out the problem for the student on one problem and then I watch as they go through a similar one to ensure they have understood. This repetative practice has proven efficient. I also tend to make the student practice more than the required assignments needed to be accomplished to ensure a firm grasp of the material.
I am an Honors Graduate from California State University Stanislaus and I am knowledgeable on many subjects. I have had former experience in tutoring and I am more than willing to work with students of any age. I am proficient in English, Social Science, Study Skills, and many other areas. As an avid reader and excellent writer I am able to work with students on their writing skills at any level.

Results-driven tutor seeking to share my love of knowledge!

Laid-back, non-aggressive, and fun when possible, but with an emphasis on focus and attention to detail.
I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. Having graduated recently from University of the Pacific, I am looking for a position that utilizes my education as well as my four years of experience as a tutor. I have worked with college level students in basic writing and composition, in groups of up to six or one-on-one. I have also tutored Psychology and Art History.
I believe patience is of the utmost importance for a tutor, as well as humility. The student must not feel judged or put down if his or her work is constructively criticized. I strive to build a rapport with my students, as trust is important. I have been trained in being sensitive to different learning styles, and I am convinced that anyone can be taught any subject, as long as both work hard.

As a life longer, I have searched out projects that not only allow me to draw upon my current experiences while at the same time pushing and expanding my knowledge. Doing this has allowed me to tackle everything form the very basic of projects not only in computer technology but also in general labor fields. This has lead me to take on projects such as an Arcade System while a student at Heald college.
I love helping people to grow their understanding and reach their full potential. Not being one to stick stricly to the book, I have often employed many hands on and lecture based training aids. The only way for a person to truly learn is from their mistakes, as such, I take care to exercise patience and understanding.

I attended the University of the Pacific when I was 35 years young and my goal was to graduate with a degree before the age of 40 which is what I did. Since that time, I have worked at the Lodi Unified School District as a substitute teacher, both long-term and daily, and as a primary teacher of general education and special education classrooms. Because of the current economic situation, I am without a full-time teaching job. I started tutoring students in reading and math as a way to continue to teach and earn an income. Teaching is my passion and my love and I welcome the opportunity to tutor more students for your company.
I teach like I learn by hands-on, listening, reading, writing, and practicing what I have learned. I like to tap into prior knowledge of my students through informal and formal assessments, talking to their parents, and talking to them about what they think ... read more

My approach to teaching begins with having a high expectation for what my students can accomplish. Therefore, my goal is, in part, to help my students love learning and to translate the love for learning into higher achievements. I try to inspire the students In terms of style, I explain the basic concept being taught and then illustrate by way of examples. I combine a bit of lecturing with meaningful interaction. Next, it is the students term to practice what has been taught. I may use a variety of interactive learning games in order to re-enforce the concept being taught. Somewhere down the line some for of testing is given for the purpose of checking to see if the student is grasping the concepts being taught.

A Little Bit About Me...

My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary. To this end, I explain every step, do assessments to determine student needs and base instruction on student knowledge. If possible, I like to make sure students are comfortable working alone before I leave and will help students learn mental shortcuts, use a calculator and think logically. Overall I love watching students succeed.
