I taught 5 years of high school level science(chemistry, physics, biology, physical science), 3 years at university level, 1 year of chemistry at community college level. . During 5 years of teaching at the high school level, I worked with students rather than just lecturing to them. I developed a student centered understanding of what helps students learn. I brought the course material together in a way that was much easier for students to understand and remember. Student responses showed that they were successful in further pulling together the material to form their own understanding of the course content.

I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. That why its understandable that if they have someone to look up to, as i did, in a particular course they tend to do better and go beyond what they though originally possible.

Aspects of teaching that appeal to me the most are the fast-paced learning setting which offers the benefits of teacher and student time, the continuity of care, and the pleasure of seeing students learn over time. I enjoy the versatility in balancing direct teaching and mentoring, interacting with students, and student progress management. Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years.
