A Little Bit About Me...

I have studied guitar for nearly eleven years and have had formal training in Classical Guitar for the past three years. My experience in instructing formally is limited however I understand the importance of music theory, technique, and proper development of muscles as well as ear training. I have performed at the Florida State Music Symposium at FAU in January of 2012 as well as for grand openings, parties, and weddings.
I like to establish a solid foundation in sight reading, music theory, and ear training and understand that patience, persistence, and hard work are the key ingredients to learning and instructing properly.

My teaching-style is rigorous yet kind. My students say that no one has ever criticized their writing and thought so thoroughly and constructively. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. Coming from a family of teachers and professors (who have also been my teachers), I'm confident that good teaching is in my bones. I never use technology just for the sake of using technology.
I became a published author of game reviews for a computer magazine at age 15. I worked at the University of Pennsylvania in Chemical Engineering under an Army Research Office grant, then as a software dev ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have had many years in the feild of education, K - secondary. I have had the chance to teach many children with different disibilities during this time. After moving to Florida I began teaching private guitar and art lessons on Tyndall AFB and at my church. Having this experience has also taught me many things about how to deal with people and how different people learn differently. I've learned that the most effective way to teach (espcially art or music) is one on one or in small groups. In the past few years I have been working with military contractors and miss the feeling of knowing that I am enriching anothers persons life.
I have learned that I enjoy teaching when it is in a more personal setting whether one on one or small class. That is why I enjoyed post secondary classes the most. For me one of the most important aspects of teaching is the ability to build relation ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching. I am trying to get back into that arena because I realize that I was meant to teach, and to help others. There is something that I like to call the WOW factor in teaching. This is when a student gets it! When the light bulb comes on, or when a student understands that THEY, on their own, did something that, up to that point was like hitting a brick wall. Suddenly they just do it with out even thinking. Leading students through this jouney is what teaching is all about.
My teaching style is very simple, but is one that took a long time to learn. In college you are taught everything but HOW to teach. I learned the HOW by watching my teachers and having some very good mentors. I began to ask myself, " why do ... read more
