Equipping, Movtivating & Stimulating Minds!

I help others become their best selves. I enjoy teaching and tutoring youth and adults. Over the years, I have had opportunities to not only mentor and tutor youth, but to teach and tutor adults, as well. I have experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects: (1) Language Arts/Reading; (2) Language Arts/Writing; (3) Social Studies; (4) Basic Math (Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, Percents and Pre-Algebra); (5) Creative Writing; and (6) Environmental Education. I have experience helping adult learners pass the GED Exam.
When teaching, I take the time to learn my students' personalities and strengths. Then, I tailor a strength-based approach to teaching my students new concepts and ideas. I usually incorporate a mixture of traditional and non-traditional teaching techniques in my lesson plans. I provide structured opportunities and supports for my students to apply w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was on honor roll in high school on a consistent basis. My best subjects were English and Writing. I attended Pennsylvania State University for Communications with a focus on English Writing and the study of Film and Media Arts. I have a thorough understanding of the English language and a strong knack for comprehension. I believe that I would be able to teach my techniques for not just memorizing subject matter but for comprehending and understanding it.
I help my students to ask questions about why something is this way or that way. It is not as simple as just memorizing subject matter in order to regurgitate it for the upcoming test. The purpose of teaching is to help others understand something that is known as true.

I am willing to tailor my teaching style to the needs of the individual(s). However, I prefer to add an interactive element to all of my lessons.
I worked with a variety of ages from k-12. My most recent experience has been with students in elementary school. I worked for a semester teaching children about sustainable practices and the benefits of buying produce from local farms. While I am most comfortable with high school students, I have great communication skills and can work well with all children.

I graduated from Towson University, Towson, Maryland in 2010 and since then I am working as a research technician in University of Maryland, Baltimore in a genomic lab conducting research in DNA replication initiation. I am also working with micro arrays. Although I do not have any teaching experience I am confident than with the knowledge that I acquired through my degree and work experience, I can guide students towards success. Also, when I was back home (I am originally from Nepal) I used to tutor my friends of the same class or grade. Also, while in college we studied in a group. While doing so I found myself so influencing to my friends while we share knowledge. So, this time I thought I can give my talent a try and start teaching as a real tutor. In the other hand, I strongly believe that no student requires a tutor. Each student is a tutor to himself. It is in the best part of ... read more

Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students with special needs in the Baltimore area.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my t ... read more

At your pace, on your level

I have always been passionate about communications and teaching. I began tutoring mathematics in High School and during my undergraduate schooling I mentored and tutored introductory university level physics, calculus, chemistry, and organic chemistry. I am currently in graduate school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine studying Molecular Biology and Genomics but remain informally interested in mathematics and physics.
I adjust to the student/learner as I am told or discover their learning preferences. However, in my experience and research, I have noticed that active learning and discovery-based learning are arguably most effective mechanisms for knowledge retention. Therefore, I make considerable efforts to implement these styles into my teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

After an informal and or formal assessment with the student a learning preference may be identified. Depending on the goals and objectives of the student a schedule can then be implemented to support the student's growth in a particular subject matter and hopefully support larger overall learning objectives.
Three years experience as the leading classroom teacher, mixed classroom of students with varying needs and requirements. Taught most subjects, concentrated on middle school/ high school math and science. Engineering student at UMD, well versed in many subjects.

I am currently enrolled as a student at the University of Maryland, College Park, in my junior year studying mechanical engineering. Prior to my studies at UMD, I took several classes at Frederick Community College, while in high school. While on my way to this level, I have taken many interesting classes and seen both effective and ineffective methods of communicating the critical content of these subjects. I am very familiar with both high school and college level math and science, and still use many of those principles in my current studies. I do have limited tutoring experience, mostly from tutoring friends and family.

More About This Tutor...

Since my childhood I was always interested in education and academics. This definitely reflects in my degrees since a female entering an engineering school was very uncommon in those days and especially in India. After getting my B.S. I knew I wanted to teach; hence I pursued my masters in Mechanical Engineering. I have been teaching and tutoring for many years but for 15+ in Maryland. I have very good communication skill. I have tutored students in various subject area - starting from middle school Math and Science - to undergraduate courses in Math, Physics and some Chemistry. While studying Spanish at Messiah College, I completed my major course requirements ahead of schedule and began to tutor other students in my sophomore year. I studied abroad in Quito, Ecuador, and I've traveled to various places in Mexico, which has fostered in me an appreciation for Hispanic culture as well as expertise in the language. I have tried to inspire the same enthusiasm in students of Spanish who may or may not have had the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country. As the only tutor at Messiah College to have completed nearly all the upper-level Spanish classes offered, I had the pleasure of working with students of every level. I also tutored students in study skills classes, helping them to develop good reading, organizational, and research habits.
Through personal and professional experience, I have come to believe that fluency is most quickly achieved ... read more
