Have taught lower-level undergraduate math classes for 3 years; I have worked as a tutor for close to 2 years at the MATH center of Ohio University. A Little Bit About Me...

While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. I easily became the math and science "guru" with my background and began getting my Masters in Education from Muskingum University. Now I train other adult education directors around the state how to improve their own adult education programs. I have spent the past three years focusing on the instruction of math and language.

Being a current student myself, I can appreciate the hardships and struggles of education. I feel that you must always level with your students, no matter what the age. The students are the ones who must lead the class. However, we as educators have a duty to guide and to nourish this idea. We must be leaders who encourage a positive and productive learning environment, while also maintaining an enjoyable experience. I believe in a split between communicative and explicit teaching. Taught AP, Honors and Regent level Biology and Honors Physics at Preston High School in NY Most of my students recieved Mastery or above on state exams at the end of the year.Most of my students scored above 620 on the SAT biology subject exam. Tutored throughout my college years the subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology.
My methods are rather traditional. I beleive that there is no way around hard work. I will explain the problems in many different ways in order for the student to grasp a particular concept. I also am a irm believer that the more problems a student does, the better they become in doing the material.
