I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. I have experience as a volunteer tutor in social studies and math, a paid tutor in reading, a student teacher, and as a substitute for the last year and a half. I also have experience as a mentor to young people through the YMCA.
My teaching style revolves around the specific learning needs of students because each person not only learns differently but has specific strengths and weakness. Learning starts with learing about oneself and how you best perform. It is very similar to sports, you start off learning the techniques and then you must learn how you best apply them, and yes it takes practice. I have gathered many tools in my life and they came from all the different activities I have done. One must only keep the eyes open and mind focused to absorb the world around them. I believe that if given the answer the lesson is lost. Sometimes it is frustrating, but training wheels must never be confused with pushing the bike. The 'Ah ha' moment can only be earned not given. As a substitute teacher, I have learned to accomodate my teaching style to the environment in which I teach, as well as teaching age appropriate lessons. I have taught all subjects and many different ages, but I enjoy math the most. With my education counseling degree, I have achieved the knowledge to incorporate the student's learning style with instruction. Individualized lessons are necessary for the student's entire success. Repetition and experiential instruction seem to work the best for the students I have taught.
