I enjoy teaching and explaining many things to individuals and small groups, of all ages, although my tutoring experience is somewhat limited. I can communicate in different styles with different people, based on how I see they can learn most effectively. Seeing the "Aha!" expression when a student has grasped a topic, especially when he or she has been frustrated, is one of my greatest rewards. My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". Whenever I was teaching new helmsmen or junior officers how to steer survey lines, I would direct them how to do it the first few times, and then when they felt ready to try it themselves, I stood back and let them, not stepping in until the absolute last second. Letting them make and try to correct their own mistakes seemed to be the best teaching tool I had.

I am a graduate from Randolph College formally known as Randolph Macon Woman's College. Currently I am working on obtaining an additional degree in Chemistry. I believe that anyone can learn any subject if you give them the proper tools. Setting goals and meeting them is only part of the battle, Knowing what when wrong and how to fix it is the other half.
