I have been teaching 3rd grade Sunday School for two years. I have been assisting my children in an educational capacity for over 7 years. I have experience in a preschool setting, volunteering with children ages 3-13, and also as a tutor to dyslexic and ADD/ADHD children. I am also a writer currently engaged in finishing my first novel.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working one on one with students. I enjoy relating science to real day events and showing students how to think out of the box. I teach using neumonics, songs and repetition. I believe that science is one of the most important subjects because it teaches you how the world around you works. I truly believe in learning by doing. Being shown the answer never helps anyone. You must go through the process of doing to be confident in your abilities. I try to make the student feel as comfortable as possible with making mistakes. That's the whole point of studying, to improve. My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". Whenever I was teaching new helmsmen or junior officers how to steer survey lines, I would direct them how to do it the first few times, and then when they felt ready to try it themselves, I stood back and let them, not stepping in until the absolute last second. Letting them make and try to correct their own mistakes seemed to be the best teaching tool I had.
