I have never officially taught, but I have been told by my peers that they believe I would have some skill at it. Mostly, my teaching style would involve working through problems or homework step by step with a student at first, and then once they gain more confidence, allowing them to do more work on their own. Like learning to ride a bike, I believe that almost anything can be taught this way. I would hope to use as much visual aid as possible, and I really enjoy doing hands-on things when a subject calls for it. I want to help the student feel relaxed, but also determined and enthusiastic.

I am very passionate about teaching. I am a very hands-on type of teacher that really likes to get the student involved in their learning. I like to set goals for learning, but also find it important for students to set their own goals as well. I believe that all children can learn, no matter what. After graduating from college with a degree in English, I pursued a career in the corporate field. I did not find it satisfying and yearned to return to school to pursue a master's in education. I began substitute teaching in spring of 2007 and completed my student teaching in December 2007. I have been teaching English since I finished student teaching and have been a tutor at Sylvan for some time. I tutor all areas, from beginning to advanced reading and math, writing, study skills, and ACT prep. I am driven by the success of my students, both in the classroom and at Sylvan.
