My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am a certified secondary math teacher in Kentucky with a professional degree (ABD) in curriculum and instruction with an emphases in mathematics education and assessment.I have 16 years of high school teaching experience and taught Algebra 2 several times over those years. I also served as math department chair, a mentor teacher, and primary curriculum writer. I was blessed with several awards, including Teacher of the Year, Excellence in Education(from Emerson Electric) and the Loeb Award (from St. Louis Science Center for excellence in math/science education).

After 16 years of high school classroom teaching experience in Missouri, I decided to pursue my doctorate in education at UK. I am a high school senior and have been tutoring peers since middle school. Because I am so young I have very few official tutoring hours, however I do mentor freshmen through our highschool EAP program and younger girls through the STEM program. I work well with students in 6th grade and higher. My strong subjects are in math. I self-studied and tested out of Geometry as an 8th grader and am currently in AP Calc 2. I have 33 college credits ranging in every category from English to Math. I have 33 in math on my ACT and have a very strong understanding of the concepts it presents.

I believe the best way to learn is by working one on one and then taking the lessons learned and working out problems with out a tutor present and then bringing back the problems that caused a struggle. Even better is working in a group of peers and then checking in with a tutor weekly so that the student and tutor can zero in on what the sticking points were that week.

Learning can be fun...if done the right way

I lived my whole life in Damascus, Syria. Coming to the States every summer was very interesting for me, having the best of both worlds, my mother being from Kentucky, and my father syrian. Throughout my life, i never understood the value of being bilingual. Now i am very grateful for my upbringing and the education i was given. Arabic is a hard yet beautiful language, and one that will be spoken by all soon. I studied in the International school of Choueifat for 10 years, and for my senior year in high school, moved to a boarding school in Brummana,Lebanon. Sadly Arabic was not taught in that school, and thats when i came to appreciation with the language we all take for granted.

Every Child Has The Right To Learn

I'm an undergraduate at the university of Louisville. I major in biology with a minor in spanish . I was on the spanish team in high school, and also received a biology scholarship to the university. I tutor my sister she is in the 7th grade, I help her with math and science. My other sister comes to me when she needs help in math , when there are problems she doesn't understand. I also help people in college who don't quite understand the given material and I break it down and take time to go over it and teach it and a way they might understand.
