I taught English, remedial through college prep levels, in public education for 16 years, and then I moved into private school education for 9 years. I have especially enjoyed working with foreign exchange students, specifically German, Korean, Japanese, and Hispanic. I also have experience as a peer mentor for other educators. I thoroughly enjoy teaching students at various ages and stages of development. I consider myself to be very creative, and I try to give the students as much hands-on experience as possible. I am constantly seeking feedback from the student in terms of how well I am presenting the subject matter, so my methods of teaching will vary. I am always open to new ideas. Failure is not a word in my teaching vocabulary. I will always find a way to reach and teach my student in such a way that learning and application are maximized. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1973, I decided that I would enter the field of public education. After 6 years of successful and rewarding experiences in secondary education, I decided to return to college and obtain a Masters Degree in Education. Upon receiving my Masters in 1984, I taught at the post secondary level in both Virginia and North Carolina.

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.
