I taught English as a second language to adults in Fes, Morocco for two years and taught kindergarten through high school in Seoul, Korea for 10 years. My teaching style meets the needs of the individual students. So, it varies depending on teh learning style and need. I have 13 years of classroom teaching experience. I have taught in various elementary setting including urban, suburban, and rural populations. I have taught in very large classrooms with 31 students in them and very small classrooms with only 3 students in them. In addition to teaching in the classroom I have also lead professional development on writing, how to disaggregate standardized assessments, student engagement, and on the reading comprehension strategies.

I believe that every child is able to learn and that all have the right to achieve their maximum potential. I am structured in my approach but strive to listen to the child's opinions. In the past, my classroom rules were based upon Jim Fay's Love and Logic; essentially, I will treat you with respect, and feel free to do anything that does not cause a problem for anyone else. I have 31 years of teaching both learning disabled and cognitively disabled children. I have been trained extensively in working with youngsters who are dyslexic and dyscalculic ( math disabilities). In addition I have taught children who were on the spectrum, including those with Aspergers. I am proficient at assessing a child's strengths and weaknesses and developing a learning program which will build upon strengths in order to address underlying weaknesses.
