A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Recognizing that all students learn differently, I seek to ascertain their learning styles and then adjust my tutoring style to that learning style.
I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. I currently serve as Career Outreach Coordinator for HACC-Lebanon Campus. I have tutored many students, particularly in areas such as writing essays. I also served as a reader for the SAT Writing section, so I am familiar with what they are seeking. I am very proficient in grammar and structure.

My undergradute years at Kutztown University have truly prepared me to be an educator. I earned a BS in education with a specialization in English. This degree has given me a great "bag of educational tricks." In other words, I am well versed in different teaching strategies for all learning styles. I like to implement a variety of different strategies in order to keep students interested in the material. These strategies include discussions, projects, writing assignments, etc. I also believe that enthusiasm, no matter what the subject, is the key to keeping students interested. If you are boring, they will be bored, so I try to keep my lessons and my classroom lively. I also like to implement differentiated instruction, because I believe what works for one student will not necessarily work for another.
