I have worked at Mingo Valley Christian School since 2010 in a variety of capacities: substitute teacher, teacher's aide, AIM tutor. I work mainly with lower elementary students on phonics and beginning reading, but I also have experience in teaching upper elementary reading and math. Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner. Lastly, if the student is an auditory learner than I will create/find videos for them to understand the material or create a song. Whatever way your child learns the best I will tailor an experience just for them.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : When I teach Math I make sure your child learns the basic skills: addition, subtraction multiplication, telling time, and understanding word problems. The student learns Math vocabulary terms and are better able to understand word problems because they know they understand the terms. They are also able to verbalize or write how they got their answer. I'm very good at building self-confidence if your child is intimidated by numbers.
