My comments on tutoring Microsoft Office : I have taken courses to help my perfect my Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint,and Access skills. I can help anyone learn how to use this tool and have university-sanctioned activities through which to do so.

I like to teach as if I am one friend talking to another. I find that this is the most relaxed way to encourage learning. While a relaxed atmosphere is important, my parents (both elementary and high school teachers) showed me the importance of completing objectives. I will push you, my friend, to learn as much as possible - and retain that information - during our time together.
I am in my third year at Ball State University. Children are our heritage. Children have an innate desire to learn and I believe that with proper guidance, each child can be successful. I endeavor to determine what the child is interested in learning and build from there. I then created my own educational company and presented workshops on natural resource topics for children and adults from 1997-2002. I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. A Little Bit About Me...

While I have no "official" teaching experience, I was frequently required to teach other members of the various teams I was on as well as people from other groups. This involved everything from tutorial presentations to a large and diverse group down to individual tutoring at the table in my office. Most people told me I was pretty good at it.
I first try to determine what level of knowledge my "students" had. Then, building on that, I would add layers until the group I was with understood the material. I would check with them frequently to make sure they understood what we just covered and I allowed questions at any time. If necessary, I would back up and try a different approach. My goal was to make sure they understood the material, whatever it took.

I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity.
