Learning is a journey. I have a map but you have the wheels

I believe the best way to learn is to ask questions. The best thought process begins with asking the right questions. As a student, I find that knowing the right question was often as important as right answer. Taking this lesson into teaching, I find that getting the student to ask the right question makes all the difference in their understanding. My perspective of teaching is to help the student to find and better understand their own question and which leads the correct answers.
As a lifelong learner I understand the importance of an effective teacher. I have been teaching and assisting college level classes for 2 years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. During this time I have taught 6 classes consisting of introductory microbiology, microbial genetics and general biology. This experience has allowed me to develop my own teaching style and led to a greater understanding of both ... read more

Knowledge has come from observation and describing it.

The first thing I can say is necessary is to recognize the student can also teach the teacher. I respect the student's intelligence and I also devised techniques that build on acquiring knowledge. So if a child knows how to tell time and can count to 100, he of she is capable of learning how to multiply, From that comes division, and now they are ready for simple algebra. For science, E = mc2 is the building block for astronomy which leads into physics which leads to the speed of light and the compostion of elements within the cores of star and the structure of atoms, creation of molecules, life forms, and Newtons prism and the spectrum ot light to math and the metric system and the old systems of measures on which it is based, to history of the development of writing.

For 11 years that i have been in school i have excelled in the fields shown and have helped my friends and others succeed in those fields. Most of the kids that i have helped have passed there classes and have gone to excel in higher classes. i am only human so ill make mistakes and am always willing to see that and accept help. this builds a respect and allows me to greater help the student in question.
i take a more relaxed route of teaching. i have found that if you sit there and point out faults and appear like you expect them to get it right on the first try it will turn the student away from you and cause them to hate the subject and ultimately fail. i take a more friendly route. talk about myself admit faults that i have when they appear. i try to become friends with the student in question and add fun with learning. if there is something specific that is needed extra atten ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently retired from the U.S. Army as a medic. During my service, I was frequently responsible for both formal and informal teaching and training. I learned to easily adapt to various learning styles, learning barriers, and researching subjects. While still in the service, I utilized my lunch breaks and evenings to further my education and emerged with my AA and completed Nurse Assistant training while still serving and my BS only one year later; two months after retiring. Currently, I am working on my MS in Health Promotion with a certificate in Disaster in Public Health. I am capable of producing a lesson and effectively teaching any subject.
I am very adaptive. I accept challenges warmly. I love working with children; I teach at my church at the elementary level weekly. I also enjoy working with adults in a non-threatening way. I am a patient person and know tha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience. By presenting the content in a light-hearted manner, the stress levels were reduced considerably! Hence, we were able to more effectively deliver the desired knowledge with greater retention. Consequently, I prefer a teaching style that puts the student at ease while we ... read more

I believe in inquiry based learning where students learn new things by forming questions that they want to answer. When working on a problem I encourage students to come up with questions that they want to answer, to make lists of things they need to know, and then to think of an attack plan to complete the math or science problem. I am an extremely patient teacher and I work hard to make sure that every concept is understood before moving onto the next one. I believe that each student learns differently and I am very willing to tailor my teaching style to independently meet the needs of any student.
I have a bachelor degree in Chemistry from Colorado College and I have also taken a large number of math courses at the undergraduate level (Calculus 1, 2, and 3, Linear Algebra, number theory, and mathematical models in biology). My first academic teaching experience started in the fifth grade, when my teacher asked me to help my classmates after school. Slowly my love of teaching and helping my classmates grew. Later I was asked to give lessons to my classmates during school hours. I started my own tutoring service for school children in my college days. During my Ph.D. program, I taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have earned my Bachelor's and master's degrees in biochemistry and my PhD is in Biochmeistry-Genetics. I love teaching and enjoy empowering the students to get involved in the subjects they learn about.

When I was in high school ,I had a passion for physics.I realized that I should know more about the subject,so I took my bachelor degree in physics .Along with physics I studied electronics and mathematics.I really believe that I enjoyed each and every moment of my science lessons and because of that I was honored as the First Rank holder in my university. While doing my masters degree in the same university ,my professors gave me opportunity to know my physics better by asking me to take classes for the undergraduate kids. That was really an honor to me. I had to take a break when I had my kids and its my dream to teach science ,which Iam sure I'll make it happen. So I started again my career by volunteering in cornado high school.

I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.

I have always wanted to teach. While in high school, I spent half of my school day being a teacher's assistance at an elementary school. I started my college experience at Adams State College in the Education department. During my initial years in college, I completed multiple teaching courses including: Intro to Education, Teaching Exceptional Students in a Regular Classroom, and Child Development. I changed degrees to broaden my opportunities but never lost my desire to teach. With my bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics, I learned to break down complex concepts into understandable pieces. I tutored many classmates throughout every level of my education and helped them with learning and applying difficult constructs from math and computers to study skills.

I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15. Starting in his second grade year, we were joined by a student who has learning disabilities. He also thrived in the tutorial teaching environment. My desire is to work with children who really desire to learn but need that extra time and encouragement to succeed.
I have experience working with both audio/visual learners and a kinesthetic/tactile learner. The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment. I believe that children who want to learn will do so given the proper setting and sufficient time to succeed ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent college graduate who plans to attend medical school at some point in the future. In completing my pre-medicine requirements, I successfully completed a large number of science courses. I am also interested in writing and editing and I often assisted younger students with their papers throughout college. During the spring semester of 2006 and 2007, I was a teaching assistant for the chemistry department at St. Olaf College. My duties included setting up laboratory experiments, preparing to teach concepts relevant to those experiments, assisting students with questions, and grading their work.
I have realized that the best test of whether you understand something is to be able to teach it successfully to another person. Though being prepared is not a direct part of the tutor-student interaction, it is absolutely necessary for the tutor to be prepared far beyond the basi ... read more
