A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is patient. I don't believe there is any other way. I listen, I watch, and I give helpful suggestions. I answer the student's questions only as far as what is needed. The students that I work with know and understand that they will be doing the work. I create a friendship with my students so that they respect me as more than a tutor and that I respect them more than a student. Yet, I will help students learn new ways to remember procedures and processes. Overall, I and my students will work together to learn from each other, and to increase our love for learning.

From May 2007 to August 2010, I attended Emporia State University where I worked on a dual-bachelor’s degree program in physics and engineering. In August 2010, I transferred to Kansas State University to complete the program. During my last year at Emporia State University, I worked in the Brighton Laboratory, tutoring students in a variety of math courses ranging from Beginning Algebra to Calculus I. In May 2011, I graduated from Emporia State with a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. As a graduate student at Kansas State University I have learned the value of education. My education in Political Science working towards my BS has given a high degree of competence in math, history, and social sciences. Through my pursuit of an education in an MA in English I have obtained a high degree of grammatical and writing skills through repeated preperation of papers, speaches, and presentations. I am a higher education professional who has come to believe that the best way to impact students is to return to teaching. I have a long-standing interest in the philosophy of teaching. I am particularly impressed by "deep learning," a movement that emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry at all levels of teaching. I also believe in high expectations combined with a strong support system, and a common sense approach to the subject matter.
