My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have had several students with ADD/ADHD in my class. I have recently read several books giving me insight into this. I am understanding and willing to work on strategies to help the student at home and in school

I have taught K for 13 years. I understand the value of one on one time, and that students are all different. Recently I spent 10 months teaching missionary children in Uganda. There I taught 4th, 5th, and 7th graders. Students in my class have had vision issues, autism, aspergers, and ADD/ADHD. With each situation, I have evaluated where the student was and revamped how I was teaching to meet their needs.
I like to see where the student is and meet him there. Look at what needs to be taught and discover the best way to impart that learning to the individual child.

Teaching is not something I had initially aspired to but found I am a teacher and motivator by nature. I love the challenge of figuring what pieces, educational, each student is missing and helping them fill the their gaps to reach the next level and have things come together for them. I am very patient and try to make each session fun and interesting. My students and work associates have always enjoyed working with me and I like feeling/knowing that we all came away with something we didn't start with.
I have loved education and the process of learning since I was a child. More About This Tutor...

As a college student, I was convinced early that I would become a doctor or scientific researcher. About halfway through my college career, I decided that while science was interesting, people and world politics were much more interesting. Now, with a BA in International Studies, I have greatly improved my skills in research, writing, public speaking, teaching, and leadership. My knowledge base is broad and deep, and I am comfortable with the subjects of: Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Ecology), International Studies (Economics, Politics, Conflict), English, and Psychology.
As my experience at college drew to a close, I found that the most rewarding activities I participated in were centered on education. I am a lifelong learner, and I love participating with others in the learning process. I set a relaxed atmosphere that fosters the students drive to ask questions and seek ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

New research studies in neurogenesis now conflicts with studies that once believed that knowledge was predetermined. I am a living witness that knowledge is not predetermined. Failing is an option and exceling is a choice. My primary goal as an educator is to teach the student how to approach problems in any subject matter by using a systematic approach. Learning is akin to building blocks; meaning that you can not move forward until you have a foundation to start with.
I have a degree in Liberal Arts from Aquinas College and a Chemistry degree from Tennessee State University. After I graduated in 2006 from TSU, I taught science and chemistry courses for Metro Nashville Public Schools for three years. I have been tutoring students in the MNPS since 2006 in middle school courses such as math, science, and physical science. I also taught high school chemistry for those students atten ... read more
