Since January 2008, I have had the opportunity of tutoring at risk 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Leeds High School's AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination). I attempt to teach them critical thinking skills, reading skills, as well as studying skills. I have worked with the AVID program while I completed my Masters Program. I love working with adolescents. I believe with all of my heart that each teen has the ability to accomplish great things with the proper motivation. I truly believe that children, teens as well as adults learn best by doing. I do not believe in teaching to a particular topic. My teaching experiences range from being the head teacher in a Montessori toddler classroom to being an eighth grade LEAP Acceleration teacher in a middle school. My most recent teaching experience was teaching second grade. I have taught fourth grade language arts and math classes. When teaching in the LEAP Acceleration position, my classes consisted of twelve to fifteen students and I taught all core subjects. These students had to have failed at least once to be eligible for my class. I experienced great success with these students and most were able to pass the LEAP exam and attend high school.
