I also backtrack to previous related concepts to ensure understanding. I have experience tutoring elementary math, algebra, geometry, college algebra , and preparation for the ASVAB and SAT tests. While tutoring my students I not only explain the method in solving a math problem, but I also challenge them with leading questions. Recently, I have taken a college algebra class and a business calculus class, both of which I maintained an A in. I have a little tutoring experience from junior high. One of my instructors requested that I help some of the other students in my math class. I also have been tutoring my family in some of their college math classes. I was recently suggested by my college algebra professor for a tutoring position at the college, but had to turn it down because I was relocating. I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance. While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then.
