ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I was diagnosed as ADD when I was in elementary school. My issue with the diagnosis always was, "Is there something wrong with me that I can't sit down and listen for hours with a pencil and paper, or is it with the fact I have to sit down and listen for hours with only a pencil and paper?" When I became a general education teacher, I worked towards making my math lessons activity-based while rotating through small groups of students for personalized lessons. I have found that many of the symptoms of ADD/ADHD are mitigated when students are doing a variety of activities with someone who has the time and patience to kindly redirect them when they become distracted.

28 Year Veteran Reading, Writing, and Math Tutor

My teaching style is very hands-on, involving pictures, manipulatives, and tactile modalities. I like to use a dry-erase board to demonstrated concepts as well as allow the student to practice. I take them step-by-step through a new concept, giving a lot of verbal positive reinforcement to praise effort as well as achievement.
I received my training from Cedarville University, Wright State University, Plymouth State College and Keene State College. I received my BA from Cedarville University in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Special Education. As an adult I realized that my true calling was teaching, and I advanced my education to become an educator. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity.
