Spreading knowledge across the world

I am a 17 year old female who has so much talent to share with the people around me. I'm apart of a community service club, I play a variety of instruments, and from my experiences I've gained a lot of wisdom. I may not be certified with a piece of paper to show, but who said that in order to spread knowledge you had to have graduated and attended college? All in all I aim to please and I give 100% because 99 1/2 won't do.
I'm more of a hands on and visual teacher. I prefer to show than to read because many ideas can come from one sentence. I learn more by drawing out or actually seeing what my teacher is trying to convey.

I believe in having fun while mastering the basic piano skills. I’m detail-oriented, patient and creative. I simplify directions and provide concrete examples. I modify my lessons to suit the various learning styles of my students. I developed an easy piano method for “musically challenged” students who want to learn to play the piano, but face circumstances preventing them from learning the traditional way—a learning-disability, a short attention span, fine-motor skill difficulties, a lack of energy to practice the traditional way, or simply finding oneself in a busy season in life with no time for full-blown piano lessons.
I’ve studied at Kawai School of Music, Sony Piano Academy, and under Ken Ogiso of Yamaha Piano Co. I’ve been personally trained by Jane Bastien of the “Bastien Piano Basics” series. I have 16 years of experience teaching piano to students from 4 to 5 ... read more

I am very enthusiastic and extremely passionate with regard to my subject and student(s). I work well with all types of learners because I see mathematics as a puzzle being put together with multiple corresponding pieces. My students are encouraged to see me as a facilitator --one who does not spoon feed, but instead extracts information as part of an investigative mode of thinking and learning. I am into the "why" and not just the "how" of mathematics; therefore, I tend to ask probing questions, especially during formative assessments. Because I remain teachable and eager to learn, my students follow my model. I love to incorporate technology in my instruction, including "Smartboard" technologies.
Since earning my M.Ed. in Urban Education in 1999, I have had the mindset to push as many students as I am able to, to the top. I have an Advanced Certificate K-8 and have held a st ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is probably my favorite part of my job! I am passionate about science and love to share this interest with others. I am extremely patient and very hard working. One of my strengths is that I can tell whether or not somebody understands the information and can explain things as many different ways as needed until it "clicks." I am upbeat, friendly, and get along with virtually everyone I meet.
I hold a BS in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a MS in Genetics from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. I work in a large University Hospital seeing patients with genetic issues. My work involves taking complex scientific information and breaking it down so that it is easy to understand. I also spend time lecturing to medical students and residents. So basically, I am a science person with excellent people skills ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While studying Spanish at Messiah College, I completed my major course requirements ahead of schedule and began to tutor other students in my sophomore year. I studied abroad in Quito, Ecuador, and I've traveled to various places in Mexico, which has fostered in me an appreciation for Hispanic culture as well as expertise in the language. I have tried to inspire the same enthusiasm in students of Spanish who may or may not have had the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country. As the only tutor at Messiah College to have completed nearly all the upper-level Spanish classes offered, I had the pleasure of working with students of every level. I also tutored students in study skills classes, helping them to develop good reading, organizational, and research habits.
Through personal and professional experience, I have come to believe that fluency is most quickly achieved ... read more

I believe that the best way to make sure somebody remembers something is to have them discover it for themselves. My teaching style is centered around this. I enjoy asking guiding questions to point a student in the right direction, and filling in the blanks afterward. I believe the ultimate role of a teacher is to help the student better themselves, and that the best way to do this is through instruction with positive reinforcement instead of direct criticisms, and through finding the right way to motivate the student as an individual.
The guitar has always been my biggest passion, and I have made it my goal to learn as much about it as possible. This search has led me to study classical guitar and music theory formally at the University of Delaware for three years before leaving to study recording in a professional technical environment at the Omega Studios' School.
