I am a fall graduate from Troy University and will be graduating with honors. I am currently a peer tutor at Troy in biology and math (algebra). I have tutored privately before in high school math (algebra and geometry. I graduated 9th in my high school with honors earning an advanced diploma with an honor's seal. I love school and love to learn. I will be enrolled in Amridge University in January to pursue my master's degree.
I love to learn and help others to learn. Different people learn differently; therefore, I present material in a number of ways until I discover how the tutee learns. With that information and plenty of patience everyone learns their own way and at their own speed. My goal is to not only help students improve their grades but to also learn the material.

More About This Tutor...

I love working with children. I have taught Sunday School classes at various age levels. I believe that each child is different and learns in his/her own way on his/her own time-table; therefore, I work with each child differently depending on their needs. I try to teach in a way that the child can understand and grasp the concepts of grammar, writing, and reading.
I graduated with a Bachelor's in English from Troy University Dothan in December 2009. Since I opted for a Bachelor's in English rather than a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education, I took more writing and literature classes. In all of my English Literature classes, I had numerous writing assignments that helped me learn how to write. I also took writing and grammar classes which helped improve my writing skills tremendously. I tutored when I was in Jr. High School. The student I tutored was learning how to read. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from a private college in Jackson, Ms.where I majored in English . I have four children of my own. For the last 10 years, I worked as a Subsitute Teacher and as a Reading Tutor while my children were in school.I taught low income poverty first grade students with reading disabilities for one year. I also minored in German and has taught beginning German to students as well as my own children.
I absolutely love teaching. I love the feeling I get when teaching and that one child that has had trouble finally gets that ah-ha moment, where everything clicks. It's amazing to see that glow and excitement in their face. Every child deserves a chance. It is hard to give one on one teaching while in a classroom but through tutoring each child can have that and learn by hands on experience. I want my students to know that there is someone out there that does see and believe that ... read more

In class, I prefer a relaxed atmosphere, with emphasis on each student as a person, not inferior to the teacher, just not as yet knowledgeable enough to teach the subject at hand. In life, these students under my care at the moment may be wiser than I am in many ways regarding many things, but in the classroom where I am the instructor, I am the one in charge. Respect for the teacher and respect for the student is vital in having a well organized classroom, but a friendly atmosphere is just as vital to the learning process. Students who feel at ease with their teacher learn well and look forward to their time in the classroom rather than dreading it.
Having taught in several community colleges, from 1981 to 2000, I have interacted with the young, middle aged, and elderly, having taught and learned from the single, the married, the multi-marrieds, of varied backgrounds, cultu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned that teaching is the activity of educating or instructing. It is the process of imparting knowledge or skill. It's about not only motivating students to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful, and memorable. Teaching is about caring for your craft, having a passion for it, and conveying that passion to everyone, most importantly to your students. A teacher is a person, who educates others. A Good teacher will listen, question, is responsive and remembers that each student and each class is different.
As a graduate and substituting, I am driven to become a proud member of the Masters program in Education. I believe the teacher needs to create a safe learning environment, explore different learning styles, and always keep in mind Bloom's Taxonomy.(yes, the fundamentals are still important) I prefer to teach students the curriculum, not teach curriculum to the students. Students need a chance to discover, explore and apply prior learning principles to progress successfully to a different level of learning. And finally, the most important... LEARNING IS FUN! LET IT HAPPEN!

More About This Tutor...

While an undergraduate at Colorado State, I taught various levels of chemistry laboratories for 4 semesters, which included both teaching credits and paid work. I spent one year as a graduate student at the University of Michigan in which I taught general chemistry recitation and a laboratory section. I also was involved in a class that was designed to educate future professors on the field. I spent one semester tutoring various math levels at the Community College of Denver. I believe that I have learned proper use of the English language through authoring a journal article and writing my master's thesis.
My teaching style has evolved throughout the years, especially depending on the type of student, but has always included plenty of preparation and making sure I know how to work through each question properly in order to explain from more than one angle how to answer. I believe t ... read more

As someone who graduated with an associates in a scientific field, I know how important it is to be persistant in my knowledge of mathematics and how critical it is for others to succeed knowing the same knowledge that I know about math no matter what the career field.
My teaching styles and techniques very with the student and their knowledge of the subject and learning skills.
