Over the last 7 years I have been either working with youth or working to make myself a stronger reader, writer, and teacher. I have had 25 years teaching experience in the Texas public schools. I have taught mostly U.S. History in the middle schools but included in this was geography and the U.S. Constitution. I have also taught GED preparation to displaced workers in El Paso, TExas. Included in the GED was basic science and math. Before coming here, I was a supervisor for teaching interns at Angelo State University. I have taught in various levels, plus the last four years, I have tutored in English, composition and grammar for EPISD. Included in my experience, I have also taught various levels of Spanish. I worked as a Summer swim instructor for children ages 3-12, at the New Mexico State University Aquatic Center. Instructors had the option of focusing on one learning level, or multiple. I had the opportunity to teach not only all the different age levels, but I also worked with the children participating in the summer camp NMSU provided to for kids ages pre-k through High School. Those lessons were longer and we had the opportunity to be more flexible with the teaching methods.

My teaching style is very flexible. Because I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults, the ability to adapt to the learner's ability level is especially important. Not all people learn at the exact pact, therefore, flexibility is essential as well as non traditional teaching methods. Some non traditional teaching methods I have applied include interpreting math problems through real life situations. I find that some kids will relate to NBA references while others prefer food examples. Either way, it keeps the child interested which is the key role of a good tutor.
