Excellent English Student, Looking to help others excel

The teaching style that I use has been my method of learning for the past twenty years. Memorization, creativity, and fun all help people learn better. When the work is boring, the mind shuts down and gets distracted. When learning is turned into fun, it is a lot easier for the student to remember everything that they were taught, because they can correlate that specific moment in time with what was being taught.
I have always been an excellent English student, including reading, grammar, spelling, and writing, to name a few. All throughout grades school, I received exceptional grades, especially in language arts and English. I have received awards recognizing my writing, speaking, spelling, and grammar. My teaching style is centered around working with an individual wherever they happen to be at. In college, I assisted other students in Drury's writing lab. And, as an editor and journalist, I have extensive skills in dealing with helping reporters to communicate clearly and succinctly.
I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. A Little Bit About Me...

My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. The first year I taught and ran the Preschool Program of about 50 children, ages 3 to 5 years. The next four years I taught third grade where our emphasis was on reading comprehension, analytical thinking skills, and writing. After leaving the public school arena I completed my MBA and then moved on to teaching adults. I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers.
