I love learning to be a student and to teach.

My style is more formal with the beginning students who need a lot of structure and have to do repetitive exercises to beging the process of learning English as a second language. Overall, as the students advance in their knowledge I have them leave the classroom and interview teachers or other people and then they are videotaped and they can write their own material. So the teaching style is more fluid then at the beginning.
I have taught in both high school the last 7 years and college for 2 years teaching reading and writing. I have taught English in the summers 2007-2010 to International Students. I have taught reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary. I have done prep for the HSPA prior to the test. My comments on tutoring Reading : I teach reading (communication skills) as a College Professor and I have written articles, such as "An Introduction to Computer Literacy", for reading textbooks. I have helped many students to learn to read faster and with more comprehension. I am patient and understanding.

I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.
I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
