I have tutored many different children at different levels of mathematics. I am dedicated and genuinely enjoy tutoring. I have improved grades and understanding of the subject with all students I've worked with.
I am able to understand the specific learning style of the student and explain things in the way that they will best understand. If they can't grasp what I'm teaching, I am able explain the same exact thing in a number of different ways so that they can learn it. I like to teach tricks that I learned and use in math that have helped me.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I began my college career at Penn State, I did not have teaching in mind. I originally started out as an Engineering student. It was at Penn State that my love for Mathematics strengthened. I knew that the reason I started engineering in the first place was that I was good at Mathematics. I realized that I love it so much that I would like to spread my passion for Mathematics to others. After giving it much though, I decided to begin substitute teaching. I had many positive experiences with the students.
I want to show my students how wonderful Mathematics is. Many students feel that it is too difficult and confusing. I will show these students that they can do it, and they can do anything else that they set their mind to. Also, I will show them how fun it really is. It might be a challenge for some people, but when they sit down with me they can learn Math. I am always eager ... read more

I was employed at Georgian Court University as a physics tutor, but volunteered my time to tutor many students there. Dr. Murali Temburni (a biology professor at Georgian Court) would recommend many students to me that were having difficulties understanding physics. I would also help many students at Brookdale Community College in the few years prior to my education at Georgan Court, as well as being a guest teacher at my chidrens' school to help teach various lessons on math and science.
I am an extremely flexible teacher. I believe that the onus is on the teacher to help the student find the best way he or she can learn a subject, as well as to read the signs that a student is getting frustrated. I am well trained at assessing the strengths and weaknesses of a person's learning abilities and using that information to teach new material. For example, if teaching a math lesson to s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

From the beginning we must let the students know what expectations we have so that they can prepare themselves for the upcoming tasks at hand. I also believe that you must have some flexibility in teaching in understanding that some topics may take longer to cover than initially expected. I have also found from my experience that when teaching or tutoring it is best to look at the student's past work and grades to see where there are problem areas. I am patient and like to review to make sure the foundation is strong in the subject area we are working on before we begin more advanced topics.
As an undergraduate I worked for the university learning center and the educational opportunity program. When tutoring a student, my goal is to help the student come to the solution of a problem through already existing knowledge. I ask questions which help relate a difficult problem to one the student already knows how to solve, and I gently lead them in the direction of the answer without ever explicitly giving it to them myself.
I excelled as a mathematics major at The College of New Jersey, receiving numerous awards and induction into both Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honorary mathematics society, and Phi Beta Kappa, the most prestigious liberal arts honor society in the country. I have 4 years of experience tutoring students in mathematics at both the high school and college level. In the fall I will begin the PhD program in pure mathematics at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.

My teaching style is more apt to be visual and interactive because I believe most students who are struggling in mathematics are helped by these methods. I believe that mathematics is highly stigmatized in the way that once a student gets frustrated by it, they easily dismiss the entire field as being foreign to them. This is where I step in and show them that even if they are having trouble with all the formulas in algebra they can learn them a more visual way, say using geometry. There is always multiple ways to learning one math topic and a student will find a way that they feel comfortable with. Then once you get them to excel at a single step then you can break down these walls and show them that they can be good at mathematics!
My undergraduate education was very extensive into the field of mathematics. I completed almost every math class at Rutgers and it gave me a extensive ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a B.S. degree in Meteorology from SUNY College at Oneonta which required a great deal of mathematics, especially in calculus. I have taken calculus I, II, III, ordinary differential equations, general physics I & II, general chemistry I & II, and number theory. Other courses taken that involved mathematics were: physical meteorology, atmospheric dynamics I & II, weather analysis and forecasting I & II, micrometeorology, and remote sensing of the atmosphere. With these courses, I have developed a strong understanding in both math and science. I interned at Teterboro Airport as a Meteorologist in 2005; forecasting for local businesses. A Little Bit About Me...

During my tenure in the classroom, I justified that all students can learn and perform above average if given the appropriate environment, and the teacher is in the best position to enact it. I strongly express my passion for what I do, and this has a ripple effect on the students, who in return express passion for their class. I use positive approach to teaching, guaranteeing all my students that they cannot fail if we all stick to the plan (and I mean it). In addition, speaking word of motivation and encouragement help students to get up when you are not there. In summary, I don’t quit on any student, and no one that steps into my class or tutoring session leaves the same (my math/science jokes bring them back).
My curiosity to understand systems and solve complex problems drove me to major in Computer & Information Science and minor in Mathematics. Due to my approach to presenti ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and have spent a lot of time helping out my neices and nephews. While I do not have any formal training or experience in teaching per se, I am often the "go to" person to learn something. I am patient and creative in that I utilize various methods to teach or help someone learn something. I firmly believe that there isn't a cookie-cutter approach to learning - everyone has their own threshold for learning and understanding and oftentimes its just a matter of discovering tuning into what approach makes something "learn-able". Aside from that I am young at heart and very approachable

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly feel that educating kids about the way the world works is one of the most noble things a person can do. That said, I’ve been through the education system, and have seen its flaws, and places it could work better. I personally am able to grasp concepts much easier when I know why I am being taught something, and how it would be useful to me. Having a comfortable atmosphere while helping kids out is also very important to me, and making sure that kids feel that they can ask any question without worrying about looking stupid is paramount. I like to use drawings, analogies, anything that can make it easier for the student to understand what I’m trying to convey.
At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, I pursued a degree in physics, specifically astrophysics. I received my Bachelors of Science in June, and now have a solid understanding of several different aspects of ... read more
