When I began my college career at Penn State, I did not have teaching in mind. I originally started out as an Engineering student. It was at Penn State that my love for Mathematics strengthened. I knew that the reason I started engineering in the first place was that I was good at Mathematics. I realized that I love it so much that I would like to spread my passion for Mathematics to others. From the beginning we must let the students know what expectations we have so that they can prepare themselves for the upcoming tasks at hand. I also believe that you must have some flexibility in teaching in understanding that some topics may take longer to cover than initially expected. My teaching style is more apt to be visual and interactive because I believe most students who are struggling in mathematics are helped by these methods. I believe that mathematics is highly stigmatized in the way that once a student gets frustrated by it, they easily dismiss the entire field as being foreign to them. This is where I step in and show them that even if they are having trouble with all the formulas in algebra they can learn them a more visual way, say using geometry. There is always multiple ways to learning one math topic and a student will find a way that they feel comfortable with. Then once you get them to excel at a single step then you can break down these walls and show them that they can be good at mathematics!

I truly feel that educating kids about the way the world works is one of the most noble things a person can do.
