I have a passion for helping people, and nothing satifies me more than helping a person understand a concept and succeed in his or her class. I teach using a lot of examples and incorporating the concepts into the example problems so that the student can see how the examples are based on the concepts. I strive to know the students well so they don't just see me as a tutor but also as a friend who is easily approachable with questions. I worked for over 2 years as a study session leader for various engineering courses while getting my B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I also tutored several students in engineering classes at the college level. I have experience working with elementary through high school students as well.

I have been a substitute teacher for about 10 years specializing in math & physics. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 20+ years of maintenance/engineering experience. I incorporate practical examples in teaching to give students in depth knowledge in a practical sense. I gather my examples from my varied career experiences from the Military, Aircraft, Engineering, Manufacturing/Maintenance & Computer fields. I sporadically tutors students in my specialty.

I started my teaching experience as a hired math tutor for the University of Maryland while I was getting my BS in Civil Engineering. While pursuing my MS and PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley I was a teaching assistant for 4 years. I taught both undergraduate and graduate level classes with responsibilities including: writing and drafting a course reader from professor’s lectures; designing, organizing, writing, and compiling assignments and projects; teaching weekly lab and discussion sessions during which students worked in teams to complete long term projects; mentoring students during weekly office hours; proctoring and grading exams and projects.
