I first find out your true objective for learning the material. Is it a requirement and not in your field of study so you just want to pass the class or is this a part of your passion or career and really want to know the nuts and bolts of the subject. I will adjust accordingly and make out a plan. I will also figure out the best way to teach you the material and from there we will have a plan to accomplish the targeted goal.
I have a lot of experience not only in fields that you may need help learning, but I also spent time during college tutoring classmates as I was in the class and developed a style to help students learn quickly and also reinforce the concepts. I understand the student to determine the best learning style for you and I make the transformation teaching you the material in an effective manner.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : My current career is in Applied Behavioral Analysis and my job is to work with children who are not neurotypical for whatever the reason.

Depends on how the client learns. I spend the first few days probing based on the Applied Behavioral Analysis standard before targeting specific patterns to teach.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : As an educational psychologist in various school districts I evaluated students for dyslexia. I then worked with the teachers to find the most effective way to work with these students.

I am very aware of the necessity of adapting my teaching style to the learning modality of those I am working with. As an educator I evaluated students to define how they best process information. They may be auditory learners, visual learners or they may use a combination approaches. I am very patient and understand that everyone can learn. I believe in setting goals and evaluating progress to establish new goals when necessary.
I have taught in Michigan and in California. I also have credentials as a school counselor and psychologist. I have experience with all aspects of the special education system from the K through grade 12 level. This incudes testing, placement and re-evaluation and the IEP process. I also have worked at the post secondary level and am familiar with academic and financial aide requirements.

Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I had dyslexia when i was younger it was tough and nobody even noticed until second grade. I received treatment and i was very fortunate that i was still young enough to have it reversed. I remember what it was like to have dyslexia and I know how to teach someone who has it.

Patience and kindness are a must. Also I'm careful not to push when someones not ready.
I'm not very old yet but i know a lot. I've babysat my younger cousins and have had experience with many animals. ( Fish, Cats, Rabbits,Dogs, and birds.)I'm free from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. weekends and summer vacation. I can tutor, babysit, and take care of animals.I know how to cook basic things so if your looking for a babysitting tutor and will be away your child will be in good hands. My strong suite is probably science and history. I can help almost anyone improve their test grades ( as long as they are trying ) I'm not the tutor for someone struggling in Math past elementary levels though because I don't think I'd be able to help anyone entering algebra. ( I find it too complicated to explain.)I'll make learning fun for your child and will definitely hav ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.

I make an effort to create a comfortable environment where students are able to approach me for all their questions as we work to improve the skills they must have for a future full of hope and opportunity.
I was a foster parent for fourteen years in which I spent numerous hours with each child weekly working with them to improve their academic skills. I truly believe that children are the future and I teach and treat them according to that. Teaching with Understanding is the primary goal that I have. Through my own experience I have learned that every child learns and understands differently and it is my job to teach them accordingly. I am always looking for new, inventive and effective ways of teaching. I have great patience, and a good listener; which I personally feel is important when teaching a child, I feel by listening to a child a teacher can discover the child’s uniqueness and apply their teaching to that. I am very devoted to what I do and would provide my all to your students.
Education has been my passion and dream for as long as I can remember. Furthermore, I followed my dream and graduated from Cal State California with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies and a concentration in History. Due to my education I am e ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Through out my work with children diagnosed with autism I have learned and implemented B.F. Skinner's Operent Conditioning model. Although punishment is in the model, my specific teaching style only includes reinforcement using encouragement and praise to help your child reach his/her optimal potential. Working with children diagnosed with autism, I have learned patience and the ability to adapt each session as the student goes through their individual learning process. My work has prepared me for all possible challenges with a range of students who fall along the continuum of learning abilities.
My college studies have been in a variety of fields with the most concentration in the arts and social sciences. At the University Center for Developmental Disabilities I have gained one-on-one experience with children with autism and have learned and employed several techniques used i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past 4 years, I've worked at the Colton Community services recreatioon depatrment. As an employee I've worked in Drop-In Recreation, in which I provide my assistance in helping the children do homework and tutor them as they needed. fot the past year and a half, we've started a new program called Homework help, which is to focus more on helping the students one on one with homwwork, reading, math, projects, etc. I am currently working on getting my AA in Child Devolpment to continue my drive to become a teacher. Ive already taken a child devopment class, and I also hold a few certificates: Food handlers certificate, first aid, and cpr.
I am a very one on one type of person. I want to make sure the child understands on their level of thinking, which might mean using what they use on a daily basis to explain clearer. Depending on the age of the child and what subject that n ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

It is important for me to determine what motivates each student to learn, what their interests are and what is important to them. I wanted the student to see how each lesson was valuable to their future success. I always got my students involved in the classroom with open discussions. Each week my students gave a five minute presentation on a subject of their choise, building their self confidence along with their reading, writing and speaking skills.
After twenty years in the financial area I went back to school to obtain a special education credential and found a passion for teaching. While in school I worked as a teacher's aide at Seaside High School, and taught 5th grade summer school for two years. After completing my education course work I received a contract with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and taught at Los Arboles Middle School. My middle school stude ... read more
